2018 AOC Moulin-à-Vent 'La Bruyère'

Domaine Saint-Cyr

Regular price $60 750ml Sale

From a 1ha parcel of 50 year old vines grown on pink granite. Whole bunch cold carbonic maceration for 18 days, and then aged in both concrete (60%) and old barrels (40%) for 10 months. 10ppm SO2 before bottling.

Darker colour. Dark berries, black cherries, bay leaves and dark red roses. Quite deep and brooding on the nose. On the palate it has power but in a linear way. Crushed dark rose petals, liquorice, black cherries and very silty tannins. The granite shows itself on the back palate, as does the ever so slight notes of thyme and bay. Silky and slippery to drink, it feels like it is brooding in nature. A very interesting wine, as when tasted in April, the carbo element was much more apparent – but now it has gone, the wine has integrated in bottle with some rest. Something I notice with young wines is that slight candied note - but if you leave it and wait, it disappears and the true wine comes to life. Hence, waiting for the right moment to start selling bottles, rather than as soon as they arrive off the boat. Perhaps the most powerful of the range – and I don’t mean rich – I mean dark and stormy, mineral and linear. Super mineral this one, that’s Moulin-à-Vent I guess! Serve chilled.
