Les Maisons Brûlées

Regular price $115 1500ml Sale

Certified biodynamic. Selection of the best grapes only, from the Herdeleau parcel, of which the vines are 40 years old. Whole bunch maceration for one month. Pressed, then aged in demi-muid for 19 months. 500 litres only. Only made in Magnums in 2016, and only 24 came into Australia. Rare! Zero SO2.

Quite a deep red. Looks powerful. Dark on the nose. Slight VA notes give way to dark berries and spice. Fruit starts to show with some air. So much spice and mystical florals, lots of brooding darkness, with a pretty fragrant perfume trying to burst through. Smells real. On the palate it’s soft and full, with a creamy texture. Slightly more power than 2015. Seamless to drink, with lots of dark fruits, black plums and cherries, as well as meaty aromas and herbs. The fruit is ripe, almost borderline, but the tannins are present and soft and sandy, and the wine still has freshness. On the nose the meaty-ness is almost gravy-like. Some liquorice, limestone in the background. Quite complex already, and this will only evolve with more bottle age. A wine for those that like a bigger style pinot with ample weight and power.
