Clos Rousseau is predominantly planted with Pinot Noir, but there is also a tiny amount of Chardonnay there too. Grapes bought from a friend, where the vineyard faces south, and is made up of clay and limestone. Certified organic. Direct press into tank to commence ferment, then transferred to old barrels to complete ferment and age for one year.

This is the biggest of the whites, with lots of ripe fruit and stony minerality on the nose. Viscous in the mouth, but still quite bright. Medium acidity, rich fruit and quite powerful. Some paw paw type flavours, almonds and buttery notes. Honeyed in a way, but with a nice lemon acidity and then a rather mineral finish – that is actually quite persistent. With air, the tropical notes soften, and the minerality becomes more prominent. It sheds its baby fat and evolves at a steady pace, becoming more interesting with time. After a while the fruit has almost subsided on the nose, and moved towards butter, croissants, and minerals. The fruit in the mouth is still quite tropical, but restrained. Nice tension in the back, and still that long minerality. If you like a bigger white that is still fresher, rather than a linear wine with screaming acidity, then this is for you. Luscious, juicy and indulgent.
