2018 VDF 'Jardin de la Grande Pièce' blanc

Whereas in previous years all the Sauvignon was made into one cuvée, they have vinified the parcels separately in 2018. I selected this Sauvignon as it was harvested earlier, and has a finer profile than it's rounder counterpart. Slightly cloudy, and very luminous in appearance. Lovely smell, so unique to this region. Not as explosive as previous year, this shows restraint and refinement. Gently floral, with unripe pineapple, apples and honey. Faint notes of background herbs in breeze. Mineral undertones as well. Tight and austere, with green apples and a steely component. Very tidy. The palate is much tighter than the nose suggests initially, but it opens up in the glass in a wonderful way. Youthful, tightly wound and displays all its flavours in a subtle manner. Feels like it is ready for a long life, to slowly develop complexities and age gracefully. But, to drink it now is very pleasing. Screams for seafood, white meat and summer salads. Very delicate grassy notes, but they are subtle and in the background - not like cliché new age examples. This shows restraint and class. Incredible limestone tension that lingers on the finish. This is a high quality wine served at top restaurants, and will impress even those who don't normally go for the variety. It's fresh and clean, and ideal for summer.
