2019 VDF 'Les Croses'

Les Frères Soulier

Regular price $88 750ml Sale

A rosé made from 80% Mourvèdre, 10% Carignan and 10% Syrah. This plot is made up of sandy soils. Direct press, and then aged in old oak barrels, and never topped up. The fermentation was very long and slow, lasting 14 months. This has resulted in a very complex and interesting rosé, that is guaranteed to impress. 15mg/L SO2 during ferment. Please note - I recommend decanting this wine, as it is quite reductive on opening. However, it tastes amazing!

Beautiful colour that is more like a light red than a rosé, reminiscent of Poulsard perhaps. On opening there is a reduction which is not imposing, but is definitely present. A decant is recommended to allow this to subside. Smells like grapefruit, raspberries and macerated strawberries. Very cool to smell, with additional notes of watermelon. To drink it has an amazing texture, as it buzzes with energy across the tongue. It is dry and slightly pithy, with notes of sweet strawberry, raspberry and peaches. On the finish you think 'what is that'? before realising that it is pineapple! How can these varieties produce this taste you ask? Crazy! Overall you will find so much depth with this wine. A multi-layered gastronomic rosé that is like nothing you've ever had before. It is smooth and sumptuous, with medium acidity and some nice tension to finish. The texture is slippery and slightly viscous. Strawberry shortcake flavours come into play. A dreamy wine that is just so tasty! Not to be slammed - watch it evolve over a few hours while you try to figure it out!
