2019 VDF 'Roche Blanche'

Julien Pineau

Regular price $40 750ml Sale

100% Sauvignon Blanc, from vines planted in 1982, grown on clay and silex soils. Direct press into stainless steel. Both ferments and élevage in same tank. A small portion (13%) of macerated Sauvignon Blanc from 2018 added to give additional complexity. Zero SO2.

Initially it looks quite golden. It has some colour. And then the colour makes sense, once you smell. Seaside, canned and cooked pineapple – but in a restrained sense. On the riper, almost tropical side of things. Quite different and intriguing. Beehive and wild floral notes. It’s quite deep and complex. Plus some slightly oxidative notes. To taste – powerful ripe fruits - pineapple, lime, lemon, apple and pear. Lots of tension and a slight phenolic grip. Salt and minerals. It’s quite ripe with punchy flavours, but the acidity and tension holds the fruit together nicely. A richer style wine that begs for food. And a very unique expression of Sauvignon Blanc that is best when served quite cold.
