2020 AOP Bourgogne Aligoté
Aligoté from multiple plots in Savigny-lès-Beaune, Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, Pommard and Couchois. Aged in barrels, then bottled after 6 months. Zero SO2.
Very pleasing and subtle reduction on the nose. Very restrained, but sniff deep and you smell pear skin, apples and flint. To taste it has perfectly ripe, yet restrained fruit. It has a wonderful glossy texture, and is smooth and very easy to drink. Lifted and bright, yet with a gentle weight. The acidity is only medium, rather than intense like with some expressions of Aligoté that you find. The fruit is clean and offers apples, pears and sweet limes. The wine is more giving than it has been in some years – more approachable at a young age. Very well made and with excellent balance, this is another knockout example of Aligoté from the master Romain Chapuis.
