Les Frères Soulier

Regular price $80 750ml Sale

A collaboration wine made with their good friend Valentin Vallès. They farmed the plot together, and then split the harvest to produce two different wines (one in their cellar, and one in Valentin's). The wine is 100% Grenache, and comes from a small 1ha plot on a hill surrounded by woods. A river runs by the plot, where there are many Kayakers during summer. Short maceration and aged in old barrels for just over a month, with a further two months in bottle prior to release. Zero SO2.

This is a very unique and curious wine - give it 5-10 minutes to open up. It's very tricky to pinpoint what's going on, and that is precisely what keeps you coming back for more. Vibrant rose/amber in colour. Gently oxidative but only just, with floral notes, cocoa dust and spice. Not much fruit on the nose initially, and more restrained than aromatic. To taste it is clean and fresh. There are peaches and apricots that are wrapped up in a refined manner. Some mandarin spray along with a slight bitterness and saltiness come into play. The wine has a gentle texture, with medium body, and low-medium acidity which is quite bright. Fine grainy tannins give more interest to the mouthfeel. You serve it chilled, but it's fine to even let this wine warm up slightly - the texture and phenolics are interesting to study. Tension builds over time too, with more grip around the finish. A perplexing wine that is different to anything you would have tasted! Serve chilled.
