2011 AOC Arbois Vin Jaune

Domaine de la Touraize

Regular price $180 750ml Sale

Savagnin grown on blue marl, from a lieu-dit called Le Petit Curoulet. Pressed and vinified in stainless steel vats, where both ferments take place. The the wine was transferred to 228L barrels, where it aged in an attic for 70 months under flor. An incredible wine to say the least.

Wow!!! This is the 2011 Vin Jaune from Domaine de la Touraize and it is insanely good! This is only their second release, and it is one of the best I’ve tasted. Already approachable now as well. Beautiful golden colour. Super, super complex, yet fresh and lifted at the same time. Some VJ’s can get all up in your face but this is quite elegant considering. Salty, briny tang, bran, oatmeal, honey, nutmeg and cinnamon, toasted walnuts and hints of caramel. It’s so fresh in the mouth - light but with nice texture, nutty flavours, and a beautiful acidity that stretches out over the palate and goes on and on, revealing more elaborate notes. It’s mouth watering, and the alcohol is well integrated and hidden within. So much length... roasted chestnuts, sea breeze, white florals, citrusy notes, dried fruits, plus toffee and a little ginger. A little spice on the finish too. Everything is quite refined, and while this is savoury, it is super bright and lifted - and ultimately delicious! Acidity for days. Did I mention cumquat? Fresh fresh fresh!!!
