2014 VDF 'Rive Droite Clos Belle-Croix'
100% Organic Chardonnay from the Right bank, where the vineyards are clay and limestone. Direct press, debourbage, then élevage for 30 months in old demi-muid.
Deep golden colour. Smells like a golden elixir of sorts, like Meursault in style. Hard to explain the smell – rich, but mineral underneath. Not tropical though. 2012 was so delicate and subtle – this has a bit more power. Clean palate, rich but balanced, and the texture is not thick, it is still quite linear. Some texture, nice mandarin drop acidity, hinting at mineral throughout the long finish. A food wine – roast chicken 101. A bit of tension if you slurp. Reminiscent of Burgundy.
