2018 VDF 'Substance'
100% Sauvignon Blanc from old vines planted in 1954. Also grown on clay and silex soils. Slow direct press, with ferment commencing in tank. Transferred to old barrels and aged for almost 2 years. 15mg/L SO2 before bottling.
Glossy yellow colour, clear. Clean and expressive aromas. Beautiful smell – Sauvignon characters, but fresh and refined. Unripe pineapple and cream, apples and a hint of kiwi fruit skin. The flinty aspect from the silex is present. To taste it is delicious. Apple, pineapple, lemons and a hint of honey. Super vibrant and clear, and lots of flavour. The acidity is quite high and extremely mouth-watering. Love the acidity on this. Lively, long and really delicious. No herby or grassy notes, just fruit and minerality. Excellent tension on the finish too. A very well made and top tier expression from this region.
