2010 AOC Sancerre 'Auksinis'
Sauvignon Blanc from a 1ha parcel in Verdigny, grown on clay and limestone (caillottes). The vines average 50 years of age. 50% botrytis. Aged in tank for two years and then in old wood for another year. Never fined or filtered. Zero SO2.
Wow. What a colour. Still so youthful and fresh. Ripe fruits, fruit salad – but when I say ripe it’s in a fresh way. You have fermented mango, some banana, paw paw, lots of iodine, very clear and pure aromas. Very aromatic. Beautiful texture lacquers the mouth before the thunderstorm of flavours roll in at full speed. But the feeling is fresh and young, no signs of age. Sweet fruit, apricots and peaches, nectarines and apples, lemons, honey, ginger, spice, salt and grip. Very complex, and needs food or cheese, but so tasty. Drink now but it would be wise to stash a few as well...
