2010 AOC Sancerre 'Saulétas'
Sauvignon Blanc from a 1ha parcel in Verdigny. Average age of vines is 50 years, and the soils are kimmeridgian limestone. 50% botrytis. Aged for two years in tank and then one year in old wood. Never fined or filtered. Zero SO2.
Brilliant colour. Orange and iridescent. Delicate mandarin and cumquat rind spray. Saline, limestone, very clean. Little flickers of ginger, but this is very subtle. Very light and non-abrasive to smell, let’s say restrained. On the palate it’s very fresh and lively. Complex, but not too deep or heavy. I always feel like this is one of the lighter cuvées, more easy drinking, more refined. Quite salty, hints of spice and white florals. Salty with ginger infused mandarin drops. Sweet fruit but nice acidity and linear texture makes for a fine experience. Drinking this and it appears to be more youthful than it's 2016 counterpart. Incredible.
