2015 AOC Sancerre 'Auksinis Macération'
Sauvignon Blanc from a 1ha parcel in Verdigny, grown on clay and limestone (caillottes). The vines average 50 years of age. Whole bunch maceration for 10 days (semi carbonic), with only golden grapes that were harvested the same day as Auksinis. 50% botrytis. Aged for two years in tank, then another 12 months in old barrels.
Beautiful amber colour. Tangy, salty nose. Tangelos, blood orange and burnt caramel. Faint oxidative notes too. Palate is fresh, with full mid palate and beautiful high acidity. Has a slightly lacquering texture, but is very fresh. With air, you get stewed fruits, herbs in the breeze, and ginger. Finishes briny. Very concentrated and complex. Almost feels Italian in style. A wine to have with food, and something to sit and ponder over. Will age well too.
