2015 AOC Sancerre 'Raudonas'
Pinot Noir from a 1ha parcel in Verdigny. The vines average 40 years in age, and the soils is clay and limestone. 40% botrytis here. Whole bunch maceration for 10 days (semi carbonic), with fermentation completing slowly over 3 months in tank. Then aged in old barrels for 36 months. Zero SO2.
Light colour, with an almost metallic edge to it. Nose is primo on opening, when you sniff deep you get pretty florals, spice and wild berries, plums, cranberries and macerated strawberries. There are some gentle baking spice notes in the background too. The texture is supple and creamy, and the acidity is slightly wild. This is definitely a food wine, and is more for those that like something a bit untamed and funky. Almost a bit like some of the crazy wines coming out of Italy. Not everyone's cup of tea - some will love it, some won't. If you're adventurous then go for it!
