2019 AOC Sancerre 'Les Quarterons' (Magnum)
Sauvignon Blanc from two parcels totalling 4ha, across Verdigny and Sancerre. 30 year old vines on average, grown on clay and limestone. 20% botryitis. Direct press into stainless steel tank, then élevage for 2 years in tank. 10mg/L SO2 at bottling.
This is Sébastien's entry level wine - closer to a 'normal' Sancerre, yet much more expressive and inviting. And perhaps a gateway to the other cuvées. Much more restrained than usual. Less floral this year, seems tighter. Still young with a great future. Very clean and high quality. White flowers, gooseberries, green apple and guava. To taste it has searing acidity. Whoop! That will wake you up. Clean and long, with no harsh edges. Saline with gentle texture. Generally feels more taught and linear than the 2017. Big flavours that are all restrained. Lemon, tangy apple and kiwifruit. Great tension on the finish. Crystaline and refreshing. Also nice to watch this evolve over a few days.
