2013 AOP Arbois Vin Jaune

Domaine de la Touraize

Regular price $185 620ml Sale

Savagnin grown on blue marl, from a lieu-dit called Petit Curolet. The vines are 10-30 years old. Vinified in tank, and then transferred to 228L barrels, where it is aged under flor for 70 months.

Beautiful golden colour with orange tinges. Luminous. Intoxicating smell of toffee, caramelized blood orange, butterscotch, brine, roasted hazelnuts and curry leaf. The thing I like about it is that everything is restrained. Often VJ are rough and rugged – Touraize always makes an elegant style. To taste it is bright, lifted, very tangy, and so, so long. There is also no roughness here – very smooth. The flavours go on and on. Slippery texture with some gentle weight. Salty tang, roasted nuts, orange zest, and well-integrated high acidity. Xmas spice, biscotti, caramel, butterscotch, dried apricots and peaches, the list goes on - this is super complex! Very tangy and briny, I love that. A wine to sip slowly, watch evolve, and nibble away at some 24-month-old comté!
