2014 Grolleau-Cabernet Franc

Côme Isambert

Regular price $36 750ml Sale

70% Grolleau, 30% Cabernet Franc grown on schist soils in Saint-Georges-sur-Layon. Fermented in tank, then punched down by foot. Malolactic fermentation, no racking, then pressed in a vertical press slowly before being aged on lees for 6 months – 50% in old wood and 50% in tank. Bottled with a touch of SO2, without filtration.

Nice Cab Franc nose, with no green-ness whatsoever. Wild berries and a rather pretty perfume underneath it all. Very nice acid line is the first thing you notice. Bramble and bracken, wild berries, but quite light to drink. Very fresh, not a huge mid-palate, but all in balance and perfect for a week-day quaffer. You can tell it's been grown on schist - it has that lightness about it. I keep coming back to the perfume too, quite pretty and floral. Very juicy and easy to drink. A simple but pleasurable wine!
