2014 AOP Fitou 'Le vin de ma cocotte'
Certified organic Carignan from 80-118 year old vines, grown on very hard, rocky, limestone soils. Wild fennel throughout the vines, and the vineyard has random olive and fig trees on the outskirts. Vines very old and gnarly and spaced quite far apart.
The perfume really opens up with some time in the glass - quite pretty, with hints of minerality too. The mid-palate is quite full - this wine is packed with flavour, but is still quite gentle and elegant at the same time. Quite complex, changes over time, and finishes long with very fine, sandy tannins. A wine to have with a meal, this is an exceptional example of old vine Carignan.
