2015 AOP Saumur 'Amandiers'
100% Organic Chenin Blanc grown on clay and limestone. Philippe Gourdon had a cuvée with the same name, so David has kept it out of respect for him. Named after the almond trees surrounding the vineyard (located in Puy-Notre-Dame). Slow, soft pressing, fermented with indigenous yeasts, then aged in old barrels for 18 months. Moved to tank for 6 months before bottling. 20mg/L SO2 added 3 months before bottling.
Clean and precise - very focused and electric. Subtle and gentle on the nose. Beautiful acid line and nice minerality too. It has more freshness and tension than roundness, which I love. Notes of lemon, apple and pineapple. A classy wine and a pleasure to drink.
