2015 VDF 'Grolleau Noir'
Certified Organic. Grown on schist soils in Saint-Georges-sur-Layon. 30% whole bunch, short maceration, then pressed and aged in demi-muid for 20 months. Zero SO2.
Very bright aromas jump out of the glass and grab your attention. It’s berries and earth, and that slight mystical note that young Grolleau has. Sometimes the variety can be dirty and bretty, but this is clean. Jubey and invigorating on the palate. I always think of this as purple love juice. Slippery texture, lifted berry mix, and a slight schist grip – but low tannins. Very fresh and vibrant.
