2015 VDF 'Les Ricochets'
Merlot, Syrah, Carignan and Cabernet Franc - from 15-73 year old vines. Soft vinification without crushing, macerated between 10-20 days. 60% aged in barrels, the rest in tank, so as to preserve the fruity side of the wine. 15 mg/L SO2 at bottling.
Smells like a combo between tamarind and Bordeaux. Dark fruits and meat, interesting spice Quite expressive and free/bright. Medium weight, beautiful texture – full, but not rich. Lots of mid palate, plum and cassis, extremely well balanced. Very good quality considering price. Definitely a meal wine. Nice fine grippy tannins on finish but not too strong. Also a nice subtle tart acidity on the finish. Kind of old school with all those characteristics, but made in a new school way.
