2016 Les Sucettes à L'Aunis
Pineau d’Aunis from two parcels – one 40 years of age, one 80-90 years of age - both organic. De-stemmed, then fermented in tank and stainless. Semi carbonic, and some Gamay rosé added to top up tanks. Left on lees. Bottled end of July 2017. Zero SO2.
This is one of the best pineau d'aunis that I have ever tasted. It's clean and lifted, and in perfect balance. It's a refined style of the variety - very pretty aromatics, with hints of pine forest and frankincense in the background. There is a tiny spritz - barely noticable - but this keeps the wine fresh. It's delicate, yet complex. You can't stop smelling or drinking this thing! Very fine-boned tannins too, giving the wine a lovely structure, and perfectly in balance with every other element of this stunning beauty. Serve it chilled for extra freshness.
