2016 AOP Santenay 1er Cru 'Clos Rousseau'
Chardonnay from a south facing vineyard on clay and limestone - certified organic. Only 620 bottles produced.
Mineral goodness, flinty and smokey – not reductive though – free and ready to go. Golden honey, flint – there are more mineral elements to the nose than fruit here. The nose becomes very lifted – like a freshly baked cake of sorts, pastries and peaches – but not rich. Also that subtle hint of melon. Textural - such an amazing mouthfeel - but has tension too. Quite a full mid palate, but not thick. Honey, apricots, lemons, flint, the minerality lingers - it’s so full, with a lot going on. Awesome to drink now, but I think these powerful characteristics will definitely refine and integrate with time. Nose is no mineral! Peach, nectarine, apricot-y texture – acidity is medium, quite nice. This doesn’t have laser like precision, but that’s not it’s style. So full and absolutely delicious to drink – flavours are bordering tropical, but not quite – there is enough restraint to keep them in check which I love. Did I mention minerality!!!!
