Trousseau from the famous Les Corvées parcel, with vines aged between 20-45 years old. The soils here are gravel on marl. Grapes de-stemmed, then macerated (carbonic) for two days, then normal maceration for 30 days in stainless steel. Half the wine is kept in stainless and half is transferred to an old demi-muids. Bottled after 9 months.
Much lighter on the nose this year, but still has internal power and depth. Not a light Trousseau, not heavy, somewhere in between. Rose, dark cherry, black currant, spice and forest. Much more floral and mineral than fruity. The wine has so much mid palate and depth, yet remains fresh. There is heaps of baking spice, cocoa, a hint of bacon fat, and very sandy tannins. It’s not like any other grape – yet I always think this is like a Trousseau that has been made like an elegant Syrah. Very clean this year too. You can’t smell anything like this in Australia – we don’t have it. And I drink a lot of Trousseau from the Jura and there is nothing like this. With time it becomes more dark floral and dark rock mineral in the mouth. But it’s linear and taut, there is no heaviness. Great balance too, and the length drifts. The fine grip on the finish is awesome. Excellent quality food wine. The tannins linger. A proper wine. Yum.
