70% Chardonnay, 30% Savagnin from 20-60 year old vines from the Petit Curoulet parcel, grown on gravel and marl. Co-fermented and aged in old 500L barrels and 2000L foudre for 18 months. Topped up weekly.
Very clean nose. Pears, apples, minerals. Quite floral and frosty. Quite flinty on the nose after a while. Lovely fruit in the mouth – pears, lime, apples. And a tiny dusting of nutmeg on the back palate. The fruit is sweet and full, but the wine is well balanced and dry. A little bit more giving than 2017, which was slightly leaner by comparison. This will be a lovely food wine. A little bit briny in the background. The acidity is medium plus. Ever-so slightly spicy on the finish. Long, lingering flavours. Very similar to previous years, and it’s easy to see the evolution of vintages, with 2018 offering an abundance of fruit – making for a slightly more full style of wine. More tension comes with air as the wine opens up.
