Grapes purchased from a friend, whose vineyards have been certified organic for over 10 years. The vineyards are in between Savigny-lès-Beaune and Chorey-les-Beaune. The soils are clay and limestone, with many small white pebbles, and the vines are 50 years old. Whole bunch maceration for 10-15 days, pressed and then aged for one year in old barrels.
Wow, as soon as you smell… amazing. Cherries at the forefront, with baking spice, dark chocolate and earth at the back. Every time you smell the perfume just expands and is so intense and so good. Aromatic in the mouth, soft fruit, a hint of tension, and plenty of fine tannins. Slight cigar box feeling which will soften and integrate with time. But the fruit is there and seems like it will hold well as the wine ages. The sensation in the mouth is cherries and strawberries and quite lifted, and the spice component, cigar, minerality and so on adds so much complexity. After a few hours, so many red roses on the nose. Devine now (best to decant) or hold if you wish.
