2017 VDF 'Atypique'
Organic Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Gamay, Cabernet Franc. Very short maceration without much extraction – some of the grapes are de-stemmed, then they all see a short carbonic maceration, before élevage for 6 months in old barrels.
That bright perfumed wine – like it has an outer seal ready to burst, a balloon full of explovsive florals, spices, and gentle red fruits – and while it’s a light wine, it has so much complexity. Red apple skin crunch, and hints at the prettiest perfumes somewhere between Burgundy and Barolo. The texture is light, but washes away with lots of light baking spice notes. So much detail for such a light red wine. Beautiful tannins, nice tension, and spice, and light red fruits make this shine so brightly. More beautiful potpourri spice and interest than a handful of burgundies…
