2018 AOP Maranges blanc ‘Bas des Loyères’
Chardonnay with a very long and slow fermentation. Aged for one year in old barrels and then settled in tank before bottling.
Noble reduction. Gentle popcorn and yellow plum aromas, with big limestone note. Some butter, some nectarine, but all wrapped up in mineral. Big energy on the tongue. Zingy like Richard Leroy Les Noels de Montbenault, where you get that frosty sensation. Lots of flavours, yet ultimately refined and precise. Lemon, apples, peaches, salts and lots of drive. Clean, beautiful acidity and mild texture. Extremely well balanced. This guy is a master. Very thorough. Smells like pumice stone. Lemon verbena on the nose later on. Nice sweet fruit, mineral core, honey drops and then the length tampers its way across the flinty backbone. A beautiful wine.
