2019 AMI AOP Beaune 1er Cru rouge 'Champimonts'
Purchased organic grapes. The vines are mid way up the hill in the 'Champimonts' climat, with a perfect balance between the clay base and the prominent limestone. Vinification in stainless steel vats, 100% whole bunch maceration for 15 days. Aged in old barrels for one year. 20mg/L SO2 at bottling.
The aromas are very different. More like wild blackberries, boysenberries and blueberries, with a core of iron. From the smell you feel like it is going to have more power and be more dense on the palate. When you sniff deep, there is warm soil. To taste – way more dense and powerful, but then lifts at the seams. Very light and fragrant in the mouth on the finish. Really nice. Blackberry fruit, limestone, almost jubey but not candied or sweet. Fine mineral detail and super fine tannins. Medium acidity. Much more power and density here, a serious food wine. Love the sticky tannins and the minerality. Like a Burgundy version of Gonon. Benefits from a decant to allow it to really open up.
