100% Carignan from the oldest vines of the estate, which are 76 years old. Made in the traditional Languedoc way, with whole bunch carbonic maceration for 13 days. Afterwards the grapes are pressed off and the wine is then aged in old barrels for 6 months. Not fined or filtered, and just 10mg/L SO2 before bottling. Edouard grew up as a child learning to make wine with his Grandad. And so this is a tribute wine, with a nod of respect to our elders.
The 2019 is much lighter in colour, noticeably light for a Languedoc wine. It looks immediately enticing. That smell is so uniquely French, I love it! Friendly and inviting. Red fruits, some herbaceous characteristics and old wardrobe – that musky vibe. Wild forest wilderness. So good aromatically. To taste it is delicate and lifted, light to medium in weight. The wine glides effortlessly across the palate and is velvety and elegant in its delivery. Light red berry fruit, creamy texture and soft acidity. Then follows the gentle spice and fine-grained sandy tannins. As it opens in the glass there are notes of wild blackberries and strawberries. Clean, straight and long. Smooth and silky. This is such a wonderful expression of old vine Carignan that is super easy to drink. I will definitely be keeping a few bottles of this for myself! Serve slightly chilled.
