2019 VDF 'La Cuvée des Doudous' (Magnum)
Gamay from Bugey, in the commune of Leyzieu. The plot is called Tomacette and is made up of clay and limestone. 3 weeks of maceration and then pressed in a vertical ratchet press, with 9 months of ageing in tank. Zero SO2. La Cuvée des Doudous for the nickname of the team in size "The Doudous".
Deeper red with light edges. Boysenberry fruit with tamarind notes. Underlying hints of rocks, and a dash of chocolate. Sweet fruit nose – not as deep and expressive as the other reds – but pleasant and enjoyable. Well made. To taste it displays the same notes as the nose, with fresh boysenberry fruit and rocks. Nice density of fruit. Simple, but very tasty. Medium minus acidity, which again makes for easy drinking. Flavour and balance are key. Very tasty, well made. Not overly complex, but very good. Drink chilled. 12% alc.
