2019 VDF 'L'Excuse' (La Tangente)

L'Alezan

Regular price $55 750ml Sale

50% Gamay, 50% Cinsault. The Gamay is from 35 year old vines grown on granite in Saint-Etienne des Oullieres (Beaujolais), and the Cinsault is from 6 year old vines grown on clay and limestone in Sardan (Gard). Both sites are 150M above sea level. 15 days whole bunch, then 10 months in a foudre, a Tinaja and a Demi Muid. Zero SO2. The name comes from the fact that the grapes come from two different regions, so the grapes 'excuse' each other.

Nice light red colour, lighter than the 2018. Strawberry fruit over rocks. Sauvage edge. Deep forest herbs and berries, but all very elevated. Blueberry skins in the background. Fresh and light in the mouth, with a dark rocky mineral core that slides through the middle of the clean fruit. Easy drinking, but finely detailed and linear. The Gamay lifts it. Slightly sour rim – rhubarb and cranberry acidity that is tart and makes the mouth water – and makes you go back for more. Very fine tannins. Highly lifted perfume. Fine and very easy to drink. A steal for the price.
