2019 VDF 'Merci'

L'Alezan

Regular price $55 750ml Sale

This is a pét-nat made from Syrah, grown on 5-40 year old vines, south facing in Étables. The L’Alezan vineyard is about 200M above sea level, and the soils are made up of decomposed granite. Direct press into tank, with ferment completing in bottle. Disgorged by hand after 4 months. Merci was the name of the first wine they ever made, and it they named it to say thank you to everyone who helped them in the beginning when they were first starting out. And so they have kept the name as a nice memory of all those good people who assisted them. The label was drawn by Patricia and is of Rémi's hands. Rémi's sister is deaf, and this is sign language for friends. ~3gm/l residual. Zero SO2.

Beautiful colour. Nice light red but not electric or too intense, looks natural. Big smell of strawberries and cool mountain air. Some nice subtle salts. Mineral and crispy. To taste it’s dry, but a hint of sweetness lingers. That drops off with air, and the wine becomes more tonic like. The mouthfeel is fresh, the texture lean, and the bubbles are very refreshing. Very clean. Very nice to drink now. When they say strawberry they mean strawberry, so pungent and lovely. Very perfumed in the mouth too, you would never pick it as Syrah.
