From the lieu-dit ‘En Charlemagne’. Old vines farmed organically on clay and limestone soils. The parcel is south-facing and steep. And while it is a sunny and powerful terroir, lots of fresh air comes down from the forest above, making for a cool and sophisticated wine. 1.5 years in 3-year old barrel, then 10 months in vat to settle before bottling. Not fined or filtered. 20ppm SO2 before bottling. Only one barrel produced - very rare!

This is obviously still a baby, and like all Grand Cru's, would benefit from some time in the cellar to reveal its true self. For the moment it is tight, but with air displays a noble reduction and intense mineral core. After two hours in decanter there are refined notes of stone fruits, flint, honey and cream. This has shed some of its baby fat, and is rather linear in the mouth to begin with, but softens with air. Immense clean fruit with wonderful mouthfeel, precision and drive. Creamy with nectarine and peach fruit and fine mild extract. Richer fruits come into play, harnessed by plenty of acidity and a long lingering finish. A great year for white Burgundy, and a treasure for the future.
