100% Grolleau from a 0.33ha parcel called ‘Case Neuve’, grown on clay, blue schist and quartz. The vines were planted in 1960. 50% whole bunch semi-carbonic maceration for 4 days, and 50% direct press. Aged in stainless steel for 11 months. 10mg/L added SO2.
Very light red. Slight reduction with strawberry shortcake aromas. Big raspberry and red apple skin vibes, with a touch of watermelon rind. Reduction is minimal, and disappears quickly. In the mouth there are fragrant raspberries. It is quite light, linear and has great tension. The cool minerality lingers on the upper palate for some time. A real light and tense red wine, incredible expression of Grolleau. Just don’t rush to drink it, only 36 bottles in Australia – watch it unravel itself. Like a cool, tense Poulsard, with a bit more drive and no funk. Crisp fruit, dry, and very smashable. Serve slightly chilled if you wish.
