100% Grolleau Noir from a newly acquired parcel grown on black schist, which was planted in 1936. Because the vines are old, they don't produce much fruit. And therefore, overall production is tiny, with only 60 bottles making it to Australia. Short whole bunch carbonic maceration. The free run and pressed juices are combined, and the wine ages in tank for 6 months. Not fined or filtered.
Amazing bright, clean and clear perfume. Deep black currant, violets and crushed black cherry skin. Also some interesting notes of tar and bay leaf to give it another dimension. It has a slippery fine texture, and is linear in profile. Bright fruits of blackberry, raspberry and cherry mingle with liquorice and savoury undertones. Fine grip and tension on a very fresh finish. Serve slightly chilled.
