2020 'Blanc fugitiu'
100% Xarel·lo from the Serral vineyard (51 years old). The grapes were de-stemmed by hand, and then ferment began in stainless steel tanks with the skins still present - 3 weeks gentle maceration without much extraction. Racked off the skins to another tank, and then after malo, racked to 500L barrels, where it aged for 3 months. Zero added sulfites.
Almost orange in colour. Nose of apricot kernels, minerals and salinity. Apricot Danish. Quite textural and powerful, but with a straight line running through it. This is a serious gastronomic wine. Fresh, medium acidity, very clean, and slightly saline. Plenty of depth and power which has been harnessed perfectly. A restaurant wine, rather than a drinking wine. Very serious, and very high quality. And very different to what I’ve had in the portfolio before. Can see the potential for ageing into something complex. Long term. Very cool. So much depth.
