Braucol from 15-year old vines, grown on clay and limestone. Harvested by hand, then macerated for 15 days with some pumping over. Aged in tank, zero SO2. From the winemaker, Marine Leys: "L'ancêtre is in relation with a Georges Brassens song talking about men who love life, wines and girls. I had several mentors in my life, it is for them."
A little reductive on opening, but only just. The perfume is quite pronounced, and also quite lifted. A few gamey and savoury notes too. But on the palate, it feels much lighter. More lifted in the mouth, with lighter brighter fruit sensations. Still a touch of mineral on the back palate. These are such well balanced wines. This in particular has a much softer texture, and is really, really delicious. Not as much structure as her other reds, this is more for easy drinking, although it does have depth. Softer tannins, but still with juicy, perfectly ripe fruits. And again, it's super bright. Yum.
