70% Grenache, 15% Carignan, 15% Cinsault. The Grenache is grown on a basalt plateau, with the roots descending deep into the mother rock. The Carignan and Cinsault are grown on volcanic rock over gravel, with basalt bound by clay. The grapes are put into vats, whole bunch, and left to macerate for 3-5 weeks without being worked. The grapes are then pressed and left to mature for 11 months on lees.
Dark fruit nose, almost northern rhone-like. Cassis, liquorice and black rock. Slurpy and blackberry with waves of mid palate flavour, acid, tension and tannin. Delicous and soft, with background power, sweet fruit restrained by mineral tension, and sticky, fine tannins. Yum. Best with food, as quite powerful.
