2016 Coteaux Bourguignons AOP
100% Gamay, sourced from organic vineyards in Juliénas. The vines are 50 years old, and grow on sandy granite soils. Whole bunch maceration for 12 days with light pigéage and a few buckets over. Malo takes place in old red Burgundian barrels and élevage is for 5 months. Bottled in March 2017. Zero SO2.
Slight reduction, meaty with dark berries. Some flowers, a prettiness under the meatiness perhaps. Light and clean, but with depth. Smooth and silky, very soft tannins. Very good acidity carries the length. Quite good tension, granite showing in the background. The fruit is perfect, not too ripe, and lets the terroir shine through. Good with food I think, but not a heavy wine. Very good. Wow, so good after 7 days. Really bright and amazing structure. Length for days too. Squeaky clean acidity freshens and awakens. Structure goes on… really good.
