2016 VDF 'Carnix'
70% Cabernet Franc, 30% Pineau d’Aunis – both 20% whole bunch, co-macerated in fibreglass, and then aged for 18 months in old barrels. Zero SO2.
Very lifted perfumes. The addition of Pineau d'Aunis in 2016 has made for a very nice wine. You get that slight touch of white pepper, wild strawberries and forest coming through, adding another layer of complexity to the Cabernet Franc. There is lots of energy in this wine - you have the sweet fruit, the slight notes of chocolate and currants - and then the light fresh wild strawberries wash through. The tannins are super fine, and you really notice the Pineau d'Aunis characteristics on the finish. It's quite taut on the finish, and there's lots of super fine grip amongst that sweet strawberry fruit, all balanced perfectly by the acidity, which is medium in profile. The wine has a very positive feeling about it, and just makes you feel good!
