2018 VDF 'Carnix'
70% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. 30% whole bunch, 7 days maceration in fibreglass. Transferred to old barrels for 12 months. Zero SO2.
This is slightly different to previous years as they have used Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) instead of Pineau d'Aunis. Aromas of brambly black and red berries. Power with freshness. Violets and limestone. To taste it's all black cherries, blackberries and dark chocolate. A big wine that demands food. It has a very solid spine with great structure, and I love the sandy tannins on the finish. Jam packed full of density with long lingering flavours. Perfume explodes after one hour, and the wine lightens up a bit. A great winter wine, to drink now or to age.
