2019 AOC Beaujolais-Villages 'Lou Bellule' (Magnum)
Certified organic vines from 50 to 70 years old. Short maceration, and then aged in concrete vats. 10ppm SO2 at bottling.
Also much lighter in colour this year, and alcohol is lower too. Always that pretty nose, but with a dark mineral vein running through it. Dark cherry with bright strawberry lift. Delicate baking spice – the more you smell, the more you get out of it. Love it. Hinting towards Campari, but pulls back, barely noticeable. Ozone in the background. Lots of red roses, highly perfumed. Ok, let’s taste… Silky, weightless, red roses, dark raspberries, granite technicals. Freshness, but that dark mineral detail keeps it from being glou glou. It’s light, but has enough stuffing to age gracefully, especially from magnum. Would love to age some of these. Feels like Burgundy. Love the spice at the outskirts. Yum. Still drinking on day 3, super stable. Serve chillled.
