2019 AOC Beaujolais-Villages 'Mère Grand' Vieilles Vignes (Magnum)

Regular price $115 1500ml Sale

Certified organic vines from 50 to 70 years old. Short maceration, and then aged in concrete vats. 10ppm SO2 at bottling.

Very light in colour this year too. Almost looks like Ploussard. Pungent nose of strawberries and roses. A smidge of Chinese five spice and red apple in the background. The granite shows as per usual, and there is a hint of game. This feels like 2016, but a bit lighter and fresher. The perfume grows and evolves, and becomes exotic. What pleasure! To taste - sweet fruit, creamy texture, and medium acidity. While it's light, there is a certain depth here, with layers that unfold with time in the glass. I love this because it's a serious wine, but has been made in a light and super drinkable style. Very, very fine tannins, and slight tension take hold at the finish. The sign of minerality continues to grow in the glass. This is definitely a summer time lunch wine that is going to impress everyone. And of course, they will age superbly. Serve chilled.
