2018 VDF 'La Chausée Rouge'

La Grange aux Belles

Regular price $39 750ml Sale

Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Grolleau, from vines with an average age of 40 years, grown on schist. 8-day whole bunch carbonic maceration in tank, with the juice being drawn out daily. Aged in tank. Bottled in March 2019 with a tiny amount of SO2.

Bright cherry red in colour, clear in appearance. The perfume gets you first. This is expressive, but restrained. Forest berries, violets, purple wine gums, freshly picked red delicious apples, a hint of spice and a subtle savoury edge. In the mouth the texture is light and supple. The flavours match that of the aromas, with a smidge of black currant too. Very fresh and crunchy, light and easy to drink. Extremely well put together, this is smooth in every way, but much more than glou glou. The fruits are fresh, but then you have that gentle savoury note, and the detailed finish with tension, and very, very ultra fine tannins. You feel the perfume in your mouth after you have swallowed, as it becomes more floral, with roses jumping into the mix. The wine is clean, straight, and dangerously delicious. It's super popular every year and there's good reason for it. An absolute bargain considering the quality.
