2018 AOP Bourgogne Aligoté
Aligoté from their family vineyards, direct pressed into tank. Fermentation and ageing in tank. Bottled after 5 months. Zero SO2.
Normally Romain ages this is barrel, but decided to try in tank this year. And the results are great - this is clean, crisp and refreshing - a wine that screams for seafood and summer garden salads. Nose of cream, nectarines, hay and grass. Some minerality too, more so over time. Palate is citrusy with hints of fresh cucumber and sprouts. Feels a bit like a crisp Semillon. Very fresh and mineral in mouth, with lemon, lime and green apple weighing in. It's nicely balanced and not too tart – the fruit is sweet in a way. Smooth texture, medium acidity, and lots of length. The nose becomes smokey and flinty with time. Perfect summer wine. And with Aligoté becoming more rare, this is a great example at an excellent price.
