2017 AOC Champagne Premier Cru 'Seconde Nature' (Millésime)

Bonnet-Ponson

Regular price $260 750ml Sale

45% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, 15% Meunier - Premier Cru fruit from Chamery. The soils are of calcareous clay studded with limestone pebbles. The subsoils are of sand with a high percentage of tiny fossils. Direct press, and then aged in 6 year old barrels (228L and 400L) for 10 months. Malo completed. Aged on lees for four and a half years before disgorgement (Nov 2022). Zero dosage, and no sulfites added at any stage. Only 1,000 bottles produced. 12% alc.

You're in for a treat with this young, yet gloriously constructed vintage Champagne. A stunning appearance, showing a slightly golden colour and a super fine bead. A complex myriad of aromas consisting of croissants, apples, candied cumquat, almonds, salinity and gentle oxidative notes. You can sense more richness on the nose from the additional ageing in bottle. The palate is broad, long, fresh and zippy. Concentrated yet lively and zesty. Citrus spray, salt, honey and a luscious texture almost make the Chardonnay feel more prominent. Refined, with so much harmony. Linear but also a lot of exterior depth around the drive. Absolutely superb - after seeing how the 2016 has evolved, this is looking extremely promising. Can happily stand alongside some of your favourite grower Champagnes.
