2018 AOP Hautes-Côtes de Beaune

Chapuis et Chapuis

Regular price $61 750ml Sale

Chardonnay from their family vineyards in Savigny-Lès-Beaune. Vines are 25 years old, grown on chalk and clay. Fermentations and élevage in old barrels, bottled April 2019. Zero SO2.

Initially this is restrained on the nose with hints of flint and smoke. After some time in the glass, lemon, honey, blossoms and yellow stone fruits emerge. Gentle and balanced. A touch of nutmeg. The aromas aren't super expressive, more subtle and reserved. Very smooth texture, with flavours of yellow plums, lemons, nectarines and peaches. Yellow apple/lemon acidity is soft but medium, and it flows nicely over the very mineral core. Youthful and fresh. Texture lightly lacquers the mouth and is slightly chewy, but streamlined. Hints of peach tart and brioche. The acidity is bright and overall the wine is polished and well balanced. Fine to drink now, or stash and watch it develop. Decanting is a good option, to allow the aromas to really open up.
