Gamay, sourced from Couchois in the south of Burgundy, grown on clay and limestone soils. Fermentations and élevage in old barrels, bottled April 2019.
Medium red colour, quite vibrant too. Young fruit, cherries and violets. On the nose, this seems cleaner than 2017, which was a bit more savage. Bursting with flavour, dark cherries, pretty florals and a dark rock-like mineral core. Deep but pretty. Crunchy fruit, with a nice tartness to balance everything. Acidity delivers the everlasting flavours to the crevices of your mouth, before the detailed minerality sets in. Fine grip, and lasting tension. Can't get over the floral aromas on this, excellent. Again, best to serve chilled.
